We all have a great amount of internal dialogue; an "inner voice" that is constantly judging, analyzing and finally, telling us what to do and how to act.
If your thinking is programmed correctly, then you see opportunities where others see problems and you will fight when others have given up.
So it is almost without saying that success is determined by your mind. What you say to yourself in your head determines whether you push forward in life and strive and fight for what you want or simply just give up and take whatever comes your way.
Your "inner voice" is the one that tells you you're too old, too tired, too busy or any other lame excuse it can come up with that makes you quit taking action and pulls you further from your dreams.
So often I see people arguing over workout systems, rep schemes, periodization models, and supplement usage, never realizing that if you lack the ability to stay focused and positive and dig down and fight through difficult obstacles, it won’t matter what pills you pop or what you use for a routine; when the going gets tough, you are simply going to break.
Learning to switch your negative thoughts to positive and push through discomfort is perhaps the single most important discovery you can ever make, as a determined athlete who can get rid of his head trash and refuses to quit will succeed with almost any routine.
As a matter of fact, I would say that your ability to change your negative, judgmental, whining inner voice to a constructive, do-whatever-it-takes voice is more important than any other variable.
So pay attention to your inner voice, and if it's constantly spewing forth stinkin' thinkin', then every time you think a negative thought, replace it with a positive one and then follow that up with a positive action.
Before long you'll be tearing it up in the gym and in your everyday life as well.
Watch this great video from Nike about just this very topic.

PS Over the past couple weeks my links to videos have not worked properly. I'm working with my web guy now to fix that, but in the meantime you can go to my website and look at the old blog posts and see the vids, as I have fixed all the past ones.
